Ferry Trip to Elba Island

For families who love to mix sightseeing with a bit of sea adventure, a ferry trip is a fantastic option.

From the port in Piombino – about an hour and a half’s drive from Villa Gorgona – you can sail to Elba, the largest island in the Tuscan Archipelago. Rich in history (once home to the Etruscans and Romans) and known for having some of the most beautiful beaches and coves in Tuscany, Elba is also famous as the place where Napoleon Bonaparte spent a year in exile before returning to France in a bid to reclaim power.

The island offers something for everyone. Elba’s beaches are especially family-friendly, with spots like Procchio beach offering buggy access, and places like Biodola beach featuring shallow water perfect for children to splash around in. You can also visit the aquarium in Marina di Campo, ride the cable car up to Monte Capanne – the island’s highest peak – or simply explore the charming towns with their traditional architecture.
